Back in 2005, the internet was a very different place. Starting a blog during the Web 2.0 era - yes, the cringe name for the rise of social networks and user-generated content - meant coding almost everything yourself, which included your own commenting system, and yes, worrying about SQL injection.
That was when I published my first blog post. I won't recall with precision, but it was probably me sharing some PHP or Ruby on Rails code - StackOverflow didn't exist back then. Fast forward to 2025, I never thought I’d start another blog, yet here I am, 20 years later, doing it all over again, except that this time, it feels different.
My motivation for writing is purely intrinsic, it's about self-development. This space has become my personal therapy room, where I can organize my thoughts and process ideas. I even considered keeping a private journal instead of starting a blog, but then I realized there was another key piece to this... Writing is an incredible learning tool and I wanted to write as if I'm speaking to a real audience, not just my future self.
I hope what’s helped me can be of value to you as well.
p.s: I’m currently living in the Bay with my family, right on the Stanford campus. If you're around and up for a coffee, feel free to reach out at felipe.japm@gmail.com.
